Warland. Elbaf. An ideal battleground for the long-awaited clash between Sanji and Zoro. There’s no need for an extensive discussion; the dynamics are clear. Their rivalry blossomed from their very first interaction, but it was on Little Garden that their bond truly began to take shape. The connection between Sanji-Zoro and Dorry-Brogy is unmistakable.
When the genetic modifications began to manifest on Onigashima, Sanji was filled with dread at the thought of transforming into a soulless beast, particularly after seemingly “hurting” O-Some. In his fear, he destroyed the Raid Suit and implored Zoro to end his life should he lose control. Zoro agreed.
The issue with this narrative emerged at the conclusion of Queen’s battle when it was revealed that Sanji was perfectly fine. He had developed an exoskeleton, yet he did not harm O-Some. Mentally, he remained the same troubled Sanji, oblivious to the chaos around him.
The destruction of the Raid Suit felt unwarranted, rendering Zoro’s assistance unnecessary. The strange tingling sensation ceased on its own. So, what was the purpose of introducing the “Sanji is losing his mind” storyline? Where has the Vinsmoke heart of ice gone?
I remain skeptical that the thread of Evil Sanji will simply be overlooked. The stage is perfectly set for a Sanji vs Zoro showdown: the ideal locale of Elbaf, echoing the themes of Little Garden; a compelling motivation, with Sanji having asked Zoro to intervene; and an unresolved plotline regarding Evil Sanji, emerging without a proper resolution and leading to the demise of the Raid Suit.
What might trigger the resurgence of the Evil Sanji transformation? Here are a few possibilities:
● A powerful emotion, perhaps stemming from Nami getting hurt;
● An encounter with a Lunarian/Seraphim, similar to how King may have initiated the initial tingling;
● The Raid Suit making a comeback if Franky manages to salvage it and secretly collaborate with Usopp on its redesign. This redesign angle appears to be yet another storyline lying in the shadows.
Who will emerge victorious, Evil Sanji or Zoro? Will Sanji harness his inner strength through the mastery of Conqueror’s Haki for the very first time?
